Medicare Parts

Part A - Hospital Insurance

Covers inpatient hospital stays, skilled nursing facility care, hospice, and some home health care. Usually premium-free for most people.

Part B - Medical Insurance

Covers doctor's services, outpatient care, medical supplies, and preventive services. Monthly premium required.

Part C - Medicare Advantage

Offered by private insurance companies, combines Parts A and B, often includes Part D, and may offer extra benefits.

Part D - Prescription Drug Coverage

Helps cover the cost of prescription drugs. Offered by private insurance companies.

Enrollment Information

Initial Enrollment Period

Begins 3 months before your 65th birthday, includes your birthday month, and ends 3 months after. Best time to enroll without penalty.

General Enrollment Period

January 1 - March 31 each year. May result in penalty if you delay enrollment.

Special Enrollment Periods

Available for certain life changes like losing other coverage.
